  Important Clement Massier brilliant metallic luster vase formed as sculptural waves with two Naiades or water nymphs on wave crests. Hand marked, ,French, c. 1900. Clement Massier was a gifted ceramist who developed the spectacular metallic glazes also used by his family and followers, Sicard, BACS, Barol, Montieres and Airebelle. The Massiers are represented in the Musee Municipal de Ceramique et d’Art Moderne in Vallauris and Paris museums, the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Musee d’Orsay and Musee Les Arts Decoratifs at the Louvre. In Greek mythology, the Naiades were a type of nymph who presided over fountains, wells, springs, streams, and brooks. Last photo is Naiades Jardiniere in the Musee Municipal de Ceramique.
